VMS is a Finalist in the MAGNET Competitiveness Challenge

Twinsburg, OH – Visual Marking Systems, Inc.  is participating in the second annual Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET) Competitiveness Challenge  - the competition was established to motivate manufacturers to increase productivity, embrace innovation in product and process development, expand participation in global sales and sourcing and increase their corporate social responsibility through green or ecologically-friendly initiatives.

As a participant in MAGNET’s Competitiveness Challenge, Visual Marking Systems has focused on reducing the occurrence of unplanned scrap during the 2008 fiscal year. Unplanned scrap is defined as the number of parts that exceed the quantity of planned scrapped parts.

Through Lean Kaizen Events and the creation of new scrap metrics VMS became more aware of what caused unplanned scrap and became able to implement many improvements.  Process improvements include: implementing Post Production Reviews, improving Standard Work practices and conducting daily Sunrise meetings to drive communication. This increased attention to quality has helped reduce unplanned scrap by upwards of 50% over 2007.
