Our History

1962

VM Corporation is founded.

1982

VM Corporation reaches $1 million in annual sales. The Kahle family purchases the company and renames it VM Decal.

1986

VM Decal becomes Visual Marking Systems, reflecting a stronger commitment to on-time delivery, quality and reliable supplier programs.

1987

VMS relocates from its 7,000 sq. ft. plant in North Royalton to a 20,000 sq. ft. facility in Twinsburg.

1988

VMS acquires Velvetone Gallagher of San Francisco, a company specializing in gaming overlays and POP graphics for the oil and advertising markets.

1990

VMS maintains 10 percent annual growth since 1982.

1997

Production capacity expands by 30,000 sq. ft., bringing the total facility size to 50,000 sq. ft.

1998

VMS becomes one of the first ISO 9001 registered printing facilities. Digital printing begins at VMS with the addition of a wide-format Epson printer.

2002

VMS acquires Globe Transportation Graphics of Baltimore, a major supplier of wayfinding signage and transit graphics, as well as printed POP materials.

2005

Founder Hermann Kahle retires and Dolf Kahle becomes CEO. LEAN enterprise principles are formally implemented and all employees are trained and certified.

2010

Digital printing grows to represent 50 percent of all production at VMS, with analog printing comprising the remaining 50 percent.

2013

VMS earns Master Certified Installation status from the Professional Decal Application Alliance (PDAA). COO Ron Gizzo is appointed to the PDAA Steering Committee.

2014

VMS launches a dedicated Fleet Division and opens an additional 8,000 sq. ft. facility for installation and removal services, becoming a leader in vehicle graphics removal.

2017

VMS becomes a third-generation family-owned company as Eric Kahle joins the business.

2018

VMS expands into decorated apparel and promotional products, adding 12,000 sq. ft. to support the new division.

2022

VMS celebrates 60 years in business.
